With each passing birthday, I look at the number of candles on my cake and wonder where did the time go? Along the way, I am also finding new meanings to some expressions that have been around for a long time.
‘Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin!” used to be funny when spoken by one of the three little pigs. But now, my friends and I have made pacts with younger people to tweeze that stray hair (or two) on our chins should it appear and we aren’t able to see it any more.
“Long in the tooth” sounds quaint, until you examine your own teeth in a magnifying mirror and find they are actually getting longer.
For now, I think I’ll just stick to another quote from Satchel Paige -- “Age is a question of mind over matter. If you don’t mind, it doesn’t matter.”
Here’s to birthdays…every single one of them!
