One advantage of being a Downsizing Diva would have to be the life lessons we learn from our clients. Today, we’re focusing on the WaterPic lesson!
We were working with a client -- a real character – almost 90 years old, with hip and knee replacements and legally blind. Never mind all that… this client had more “get up and go” than someone half his age.
As we were sorting through his liquor cabinet, I discovered an unopened box from the back of the cabinet. “What’s this?” I asked?
“I don’t know”, he said, “what is it?” (Remember he was legally blind!)
I took a minute to read him the label on the box. “It’s a WaterPic”, I said, “and it has never been opened!”
“What’s a WaterPic?” was the next question.
“Well,” I said trying to explain, “it’s a machine you plug in, fill with water and it squooshes water between your teeth to clean them.”
The living room became quiet and then he started to laugh… “I don’t have any teeth”, he said. And then, we both started laughing – right out loud – real belly laughs.
“Well, I guess that solves that”, I said. “If you don’t have any teeth, I’m thinking you don’t need a WaterPic, so let’s give this to someone who will use it!” And that’s exactly what we did.
So, here is the lesson:
Don’t use valuable space to store things you have no intention of using!
Kinda makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
What do YOU have in your cupboards, closets, and drawers that you no longer want, use or need? Either use it…or lose it!
