Moving in cartons

When you have lived in the same house for 20, 30, 40, 50 or more years, planning a move can be a MAJOR PROJECT!

Leaving a familiar neighbourhood, moving away from long-time friends, selling your family home and deciding what to take with you and what to leave behind canput you on an emotional roller coaster.

Like any new adventure, move preparation is much easier when you plan ahead.

Create a Floor Plan of your new home.
You will likely be moving to a smaller home/condo, or transitioning to a retirement community which means you have a wonderful opportunity to “lighten-up” and select furniture and accessories to fit your new space.

Consider your new “lifestyle”.
Moving is always a great excuse to down-size. Let go of stuff that no longer fits your newlifestyle by editing the boxes and items stored in the basement, attic and garage. Remember “less is more.”

Reduce duplication.
When you move to a smaller home, you will lose storage space. It’s a well-known fact that our stuff will multiply to fit the space we have available.

Bring your treasures.
Select favourite furniture and accessories and surround yourself with items you treasure. This move is “all about you”, so take items you want, use and love.

Be selective.
Make sure your furniture is multi-functional, chairs are comfort-able, tables and cabinets double as storage spaces and lighting is task-specific.

Personalize your space.
Bring along favourite pictures and framed photos of friends and family. When you open the door, you will feel like you’re home again!

Edit your clothes before you pack.
If you haven’t worn an item in the past year, or you don’t feel simply fabulous wearing it...don’t pack it. Consider donating these clothes to your favourite charity where they can be worn and enjoyed by someone else!

Moving is an adventure... embrace it!
