Downsizing was not in my lexicon for the first half of my life. I am one of seven children and my parents upsized rather desperately to a completely different part of the province when I was 16. We, as children, were not consulted about that move, which has given me a deep insight into the need for consultation and collaboration during a time of transition.
Like some of the other Divas, my first client was my mother (my brother did all the packing!), following my father’s death. She downsized into a new space and community with courage and resilience. Her legendary hospitality continued to shine, polished by friends and family, also my three sons, who loved sleeping over!
Having worked in the field of downsizing for over a decade, I find it plain to see the rewards my clients enjoy: increased safety and wellness (and peace of mind for friends and family!), enriched living among new neighbours, more energy for hobbies and interest groups, as well as the benefits of less stress on the mind and body….and hence: my work is rewarding!
